At the end of May, the BioGenes team joined industry experts, regulators, and biopharmaceutical professionals at the BEBPA HCP Conference in Boulder, Colorado. As always, the event was exceptionally well organized and provided a valuable forum for discussing the latest developments in Host Cell Protein (HCP) analysis and monitoring. Several themes emerged consistently throughout the conference and highlighted where the industry is heading.
One of the clearest messages was that ELISA remains the established gold standard for HCP monitoring. While new analytical technologies continue to evolve, experts agreed that ELISA's robustness, sensitivity, cost-efficiency, and regulatory acceptance will ensure its central role for years to come.
At the same time, mass spectrometry continues to gain importance. Rather than replacing ELISA, it is increasingly being used as a complementary tool to identify specific HCPs, investigate process-related questions, and support risk assessments.
